About

The PERSyst (Prevalence Estimates Reviews – Systematic Review Methodology Group) is an academic, collaborative group, with the aim to develop and to disseminate methods for systematic reviews of proportions, such as prevalence and incidence.

It was created in 2019 as a collaboration between researchers from the the University of Adelaide (Australia) and the Institute of Health Technology Assessment (IATS) at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (Brazil), with an initial focus of developing prevalence reviews methods. Currently, the group consists of members from other remarkable international academic institutions, including the University of Bristol and the University of Bern.

The PERSyst members are researchers actively involved in various collaborative groups in the field of epidemiology, including the Cochrane Collaboration, the GRADE Working Group, the Joanna Briggs Institute, and the Society for Research Synthesis Methods.

Previous and ongoing projects:

  • Publication bias in systematic reviews of prevalence
  • Heterogeneity and weighting in meta-analyses of proportions
  • Reporting of prevalence systematic reviews (PRISMA-Prev)
  • Risk of bias in prevalence studies
  • Reporting of prevalence studies (STROBE-Prev, in collaboration with the University of Bern)
  • GRADE for prevalence estimates
